I have so far not managed to remove the sidebar chat completely and revert back to the original one. But with a little tip, you can get back the old chat. The trick is to use the pop-up mode. You can simply visit here to pop-out the chat box.
UPDATE: We have another trick to get the old facebook chat back. You just need to install this Greasemonkey script on your browser. If you are using Google chrome, you can simply install it. If you are using Firefox, you need to get the Greasemonkey add-on first. You may have some problems with other Facebook features like like and share. So, disable this when you are not using the chat.
